Courses numbered below 100 are developmental, courses in the 100 series are designed for freshmen, 200 courses are for sophomores, and 300 and 400 courses are for juniors and seniors.

Admission to courses numbered 300 or above requires sophomore standing and completion of six semester hours of non‑developmental English and three semester hours of non‑developmental mathematics.


•  

Numbers preceded by an asterisk (*)indicate courses carrying undergraduate credit or graduate credit. Such courses are structured to ensure appropriate attention to both groups.


•  

Courses numbered 500 to 599 are designed for graduate students. Seniors, however, may be admitted under certain conditions (see Admissions of Seniors to Part‑Time Graduate Study).


•  

A freshman or sophomore cannot register for a course listed and offered for graduate or undergraduate credit, if a graduate student is enrolled in the course.


Courses numbered below 100 are developmental and are not acceptable for credit toward graduation. Some other courses numbered above 100 may not carry credit toward graduation; see course description.

Activity Courses: Students may select an activity course that emphasizes lifetime skills, sports skills, or movement arts to satisfy the personal wellness component of the general education requirements. A common two week wellness module is included in each course.

H&PE 236. Personal Fitness. 2-1-2. Prerequisite: H&PE majors only or permission of department head. Key dimensions of personal wellness. H&PE 252. Introduction to Health and Physical Education. 3‑3‑0. Historical influences, philosophical positions, and the current status of sport, health and physical education pedagogy, and fitness. (13.1314)

H&PE 270. First Aid. 2‑1‑2. Preparation of participants to respond to emergency situations with confidence in their ability to perform the necessary skills. Appropriate American Red Cross certificates may be granted to those who qualify. This course is also available via Internet. Tests and measurements currently used in health, adapted physical education, and physical education program; elementary statistical procedure and evaluation in health and physical education. Sp only. H&PE 393. Introducing Physical Education for All Children with Disabilities. 3‑3‑0. Prerequisite: EDUC 312 or H&PE 312. Identification of motor abilities of children with disabilities; how programs can be adjusted to suit their needs and interests. (13.1314)

H&PE 397. Health, Prevention and Emergency Care of Athletic Injuries. 3‑3‑0. Prerequisites: Junior standing and BIOL 114 or H&PE 275. Primarily for students majoring in Health and Physical Education. Sp only. (13.1307)

H&PE 411. Health and Safety Education. 3‑3‑0. All grade levels in the school health and safety program ─ wholesome environment in home, school, traffic, community, and industrial safety. Emphasis on organization and administration of general information on the psychology of accident prevention. (13.1304)

H&PE 412. Psychosocial Aspects of Physical Activity. 3-3-0. Psychological factors affecting skill acquisition, performance, and behavior in play, games, and sport, including implications for teachers and coaches. (13.1314)

H&PE 492. The Adult Health and Development Program. 3‑3‑0. Fundamentals of health and aging. Students are paired with community members fifty years old and older to improve the health and well being of all. (13.1314)

H&PE 494. Behavior Impairment and Physical Education. 3‑2‑2. Prerequisite: H&PE 393 or permission of instructor. Appropriate physical education settings for children labeled as mentally retarded, emotionally disturbed, or learning disabled. Participation in schools required. (13.1314)

H&PE 495. Chronic Disability and Physical Education. 3‑2‑2. Prerequisite: H&PE 494 or permission of department head. Adjusted physical education programs for children with overt physical and/or sensory disabilities of a long‑lasting nature. Participation in schools required. (13.1314)

H&PE 496. The Physical Education Curriculum for All Children with Disabilities. 3‑3‑0. Prerequisite: H&PE 495 or permission of department head. Curriculum needs, implementation, and evaluation as required by Louisiana State Regulations and Physical Education Need Assessment. (13.1314)
