COURSES OF INSTRUCTION FOR ADMINISTRATION AND SUPERVISION

Courses numbered below 100 are developmental, courses in the 100 series are designed for freshmen, 200 courses are for sophomores, and 300 and 400 courses are for juniors and seniors.

Admission to courses numbered 300 or above requires sophomore standing and completion of six semester hours of non‑developmental English and three semester hours of non‑developmental mathematics.


•  

Numbers preceded by an asterisk (*)indicate courses carrying undergraduate credit or graduate credit. Such courses are structured to ensure appropriate attention to both groups.


•  

Courses numbered 500 to 599 are designed for graduate students. Seniors, however, may be admitted under certain conditions (see Admissions of Seniors to Part‑Time Graduate Study).

A freshman or sophomore cannot register for a course listed and offered for graduate or undergraduate credit, if a graduate student is enrolled in the course.


Courses numbered below 100 are developmental and are not acceptable for credit toward graduation. Some other courses numbered above 100 may not carry credit toward graduation; see course description.

EDAS 508. Principles and Theories of Educational Leadership. 3‑3‑0. Prerequisite: Successful completion of EDFR 501 or permission of department head as a corequisite with EDFR 501. Introduction to educational administration. Survey of administrative literature, thought and organizational concepts. The organizational structure of public education with emphasis on school law as it influences Louisiana schools. (13.0401)

EDAS 509. School Finance.3‑3‑0. Prerequisite: Completion of foundations core or permission of department head. Sources of financial support and distribution programs for public education. Various foundation programs, models, basic budget development and school accounting procedures. Sp and Fa only. (13.0401)

EDAS 511. Supervision of Student Teaching.3‑3‑0. The clinical approach to student teaching, practices and procedures used during the professional semester. Fa only. (13.0404)

EDAS 523. The Elementary School Principalship.3‑3‑0. Prerequisite: Completion of foundations core or permission of department head. Intensive study of the school administrator's role and administrative techniques. Sp only. (13.0408)

EDAS 528. Supervision of Child Welfare and Attendance.3‑3‑0. Duties of the child welfare and attendance supervisor; visitation programs in home and school; attendance and related problems; home‑school relationships; record keeping; child welfare agencies and Louisiana laws. Su only. (13.0404)

EDAS 530. School‑Community Relations.3‑3‑0. Principles and problems in the development of a successful school‑community relations program. Sp only. (13.0401)

EDAS 535. Program Evaluation.3-3-0. Prerequisite: Educational research or equivalent. The role of a school administrator as educational leader and supervisor in using qualitative and quantitative information for local school improvement. Critical examination of methods, techniques, instruments, and procedures used in evaluating local school based programs. Fa only. (13.0601)

EDAS 536. Application of Evaluation Methods.3-3-0. Prerequisites: EDFR 501 and EDAS 535. The role of an evaluator using qualitative and quantitative information for educational assessment and evaluation within local school systems. Qualitative methods using case studies, empowerment evaluation techniques, and ethnographic analyses are used. Quantitative methods employing the use of Factor Analysis, ANOVA, CANOVA, MANOVA are introduced. Sp only. (13.0401)

EDAS 537. Issues and Trends in Educational Leadership.3‑3‑0. A review and analysis of current trends in educational leadership with specific emphasis on school facilities, school personnel administration, and group dynamics. Su only (13.0401)

EDAS 581. Federal, State and Local Education Law.3‑3‑0. Prerequisite: Completion of foundations core or permission of department head. Basic legal concepts and principles influencing the establishment and operation of school systems. Current court rulings, doctrines, and trends. Sp and Su only. (13.0401)

EDAS 593. Administrator's and Supervisor's Workshop.3‑3‑0. Course intended to meet needs of in‑service personnel. May be repeated for credit whenever content is different. Not applicable toward any graduate degree. Workshops are organized on special topics. S or U assigned upon completion of course. (13.0401)

EDAS 594. Internship in Educational Administration and Supervision. 3‑0‑6. Prerequisites: 12 semester hours of credit in Educational Administration and Supervision. Enrollment is limited. Supervised individual experience in school administration and supervision selected to provide practical training. Sp only. (13.0401)
