COURSES OF INSTRUCTION FOR BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION

Courses numbered below 100 are developmental, courses in the 100 series are designed for freshmen, 200 courses are for sophomores, and 300 and 400 courses are for juniors and seniors.

Admission to courses numbered 300 or above requires sophomore standing and completion of six semester hours of non‑developmental English and three semester hours of non‑developmental mathematics.


•  

Numbers preceded by an asterisk (*)indicate courses carrying undergraduate credit or graduate credit. Such courses are structured to ensure appropriate attention to both groups.

Courses numbered 500 to 599 are designed for graduate students. Seniors, however, may be admitted under certain conditions (see Admissions of Seniors to Part‑Time Graduate Study).

A freshman or sophomore cannot register for a course listed and offered for graduate or undergraduate credit, if a graduate student is enrolled in the course.


Courses numbered below 100 are developmental and are not acceptable for credit toward graduation. Some other courses numbered above 100 may not carry credit toward graduation; see course description.

BSAD 101. Introduction to American Business. 3‑3‑0. A survey of American business including the types of business organization and career fields. Not open to Juniors and Seniors in College of Business Administration. (52.0101)

BSAD 200. Supervision. 3‑3‑0. Prerequisite: Sophomore standing. An investigation of the tasks and responsibilities faced by the first‑line supervisor. Cannot be applied toward a Bachelor degree in the College of Business Administration. (52.0204)

BSAD 201. Management of Small Business. 3‑3‑0. Prerequisite: Sophomore standing. Problems related to small business firms in general management and the functional areas of personnel, finance, production, control, marketing and organization. Cannot be applied toward a Bachelor degree in the College of Business Administration. (52.0701)

BSAD 202. Personal Finance. 3‑3‑0. Prerequisite: Sophomore standing. Survey course that covers the following areas: budgeting, personal credit management, taxes, insurance, investment planning, and estate planning. Not open to Juniors or Seniors in the College of Business Administration. (52.0804)

BSAD 221. Legal Environment of Business. 3‑3‑0. Prerequisite: Sophomore standing. Relationships among legal, political, and business environments; sources of law and their effects on business decisions; constitutional, administrative, and civil procedure; employment, environmental, and consumer law; social, ethical, and international facets of the legal environment. BSAD 295. Seminar for International Students. 3‑3‑0. Prerequisite: Sophomore standing. A course to acquaint international students with the American business, political and social environments. It is not open to American students. May be repeated for credit if content differs. (52.0101)

BSAD 310. Business Communications. 3‑3‑0. Prerequisites: ENGL 102 and junior standing. Fundamental business communication theory, business letters, and reports. (52.0501)

BSAD 324. Commercial Law. 3‑3‑0. Prerequisite: Junior standing. Legal concepts relating to contracts, agency, sales of goods, commercial paper, bankruptcy, security interests, partnerships and corporations; application of the Uniform Commercial Code. (52.0101)

BSAD 490. Business Policy. 3‑3‑0. Prerequisites: Completion of BSAD 310 or ENGL 310; FINC 302; MNGT 301; and MKTG 300. Must be taken in last 18 hours of coursework. Open to business majors only. Capstone course integrating management and business functions in a problem-solving environment. Top management point of view is stressed. Long range commitments of capital and human resources and how such decisions are made. (52.0201)

BSAD 501. Business Statistics. 3‑3‑0. Prerequisite: QBA 282 or equivalent. Classical statistical methods and inference for business decisions including regression analysis, correlation analysis, of variance, sampling theory, Bayesian statistics, hypothesis testing, and nonparametric statistics. BSAD 503. Business Research. 3‑3‑0. Prerequisite: BSAD 501, Business Statistics. Business research and research methodology. Application of statistical techniques to business problems. Individual study and formal written presentation of investigation of business problems. Sp and Su only. (52.1302)

BSAD 505. Directed Study in Business. 3‑3‑0. Directed study in an area of business under the direction of a graduate faculty member. Credit toward graduation will not be given for both BSAD 505 and BSAD 596. (52.0101)

BSAD 508. Advanced Operations Management. 3‑3‑0. Prerequisite: MNGT 368 or equivalent. Computer‑based, mathematical, and analytical methods for solving a wide range of modern business problems. Topics covered include forecasting, resource management, inventory management, quality assurance, project management, product and service design, scheduling, and facility location, layout and capacity. BSAD 515. Communication and Interpersonal Relations. 3‑3‑0. Communication theory and application synthesizing all areas of interpersonal relations in organizations. Sp only. (52.0201)

BSAD 520. Special Topics in Business. 3-3-0. In-depth treatment of special topics in the business disciplines. Content of the course varies with each offering. May be repeated for credit if content differs. (52-0201)

BSAD 525. Seminar in Corporate Strategy. 3‑3‑0. Prerequisite: To be scheduled in student's final semester; can be taken in an earlier semester only after completion of remaining required MBA courses. Investigation of business policy formulation and administration; the business enterprise as a system. A case approach involving the integration of current concepts in all business disciplines. BSAD 596. Master's Thesis Research. 6‑0‑12. Enrollment permitted only following formal committee approval of thesis prospectus. S or U will be assigned upon completion of thesis. (52.0101)
