The organizational structure of Nicholls State University is clearly defined so as to delineate responsibilities and lines of accountability. These responsibilities and lines of accountability are published in Section 1.6 of the University's Policy and Procedure Manual [1]. Section 1.5 [2] of the Manual describes state-governing board policies for establishing policy-making authority through the President of the University. The President is clearly vested with the authority to administer the University as per the University of Louisiana System's Board Rules, Part II, Chapter III, Section IV [3].

The University's organizational chart (published in employee handbooks and on the NSU Web site) shows that the President delegates responsibility for the four primary areas of the University: Academic Affairs, Student Affairs, Finance and Administration, and Institutional Advancement. The University's Policy and Procedure Manual clearly summarizes the general responsibilities and duties of the President and of the four Vice Presidents in Sections 1.7 through 1.11 [4].
