Nicholls State University prepares financial statements and other related documents as requested by the University of Louisiana System's Board Rules, Chapter IV, Sections I, II, III, and XII [1], and Policy and Procedures Memorandum FB-IV.(1-a) [2]. These documents accurately and appropriately represent the total operations of the University and are prepared in accordance with guidelines set forth by the Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB), the National Association of College and University Business Officers (NACUBO), and the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA).

Financial statements are prepared and submitted annually and audited by the Legislative Auditor of the State of Louisiana on a bi-annual basis. Accuracy of information is verified through this external audit process. Upon completion, the Legislative Auditor issues a Management Letter assuring the financial information of the University and evaluating the University of Louisiana System's Financial Statements as a whole. In addition to the audited financial statements, the University prepares Annual Financial Statements (2002 [12], 2003 [13], 2004 [14], 2005 [15]) for compilation under the University of Louisiana System. The University's financial statements provide both long-term and short-term information about Nicholls State University's overall financial status. These statements also include notes that explain parts of the financial statements and provide more detailed data. The statements are followed by sections of supplementary materials that further explain and support the reports.

Additionally, the University of Louisiana System requires its system institutions to provide Quarterly Financial Status Reports on Operating Revenue and Expenditures (2002-2003 [16], 2003-2004 [17], 2005 [18]), as well as other selected major funding sources, including auxiliary enterprises. These reports also require certification of on-going assurances to the Board.
